Note: Nils Nessim was a prominent oriental carpet dealer in Stockholm. He learnt his trade from his knowledgeable father, Jean Benschoam, who had emigrated from Bulgaria to Sweden in the 1910s. Nils Nessim's business rapidly developed, and he soon started an exclusive antiques shop in the best part of Stockholm.
He travelled many times to China and developed an interest in its art and antiques. His collection of Chinese art soon became well known in Sweden. In 1959, Nils Nessim managed to receive permission from the Chinese authorities to import antiquities into Sweden from China. Parts of his collection of Chinese art and antiques have been exhibited in Swedish museums.
