A pair of Fabergé silver-mounted cut-glass claret jugs
Workmaster Julius Rappoport, St. Petersburg, 1908-1917
the oval bodies with elaborate silver mounts cast and chased with rocaille scrolling and bullrushes, with twist scroll handles, the hinged lids similarly decorated and with flower terminals, marked ‘Fabergé’ and with workmaster’s initials (2).

Julius Rappoport (1864-1916) trained in Berlin and opened his own workshop in St Petersburg in 1883, quickly becoming one of Fabergé’s most important suppliers of silver objects. His range of products included large silver dinner services, silver-mounted functional objects and silver animals, very often using nature as inspiration as exemplified in this pair of claret jugs
