of rectangular form with silver hinges and strapwork corners, the lid with an applied cast armorial bearings for Francis 14th Lord Grey of Kinfauns
15cm high, 30.5cm wide, 20.5cm deep
Note:
Kinfauns Castle was designed by Robert Smirke and built 1822-26. Lord Grey had a fascination for agates and his large collection was purchased by Lord Dalhousie and gifted to Montrose Museum. This casket was probably designed to show off the hardstone.
