The presentation inscription reads 'Presented to Alexander Campbell Esq of Monzie, by upwards of 500 non-electors of Inverness to mark their appreciation of his conduct in coming forward as a candidate, the independence of the Inverness District of Burgh at the late General Election their aprobation of the courtesy and firmness he displayed throughout the contest and their gratitude for his eloquent advocacy of the just claims of the unfranchised working man July 1857'
