綠地刺綉蓮花紋罩袍
of Central Asian style with stiff collar opened down to chest, embroidered colourfully overall in chain stitch with bats, lotuses, pomegranates, butterflies, peacock feathers, exotic flowers, all reserved on a green and patterned silk ground

Provenance: Private Scottish collection, Edinburgh, acquired from a fundraising event at Ascreavie in Angus, Scotland in 1976. The piece was donated by Mrs Sheriff of Ascreavie whose late husband was Major George Sheriff, Scottish Explorer and plant collector. They had spent many years in Tibet and Bhutan and he was the British Vice Consul in Kashgar. Mrs Sheriff described the robe as "Hand made in Kashgar in 1930 and was used by Christian Chinese at church festivities."
