Note:
Corneille Guillaume van Beverloo, or simply Corneille, as he went by for the majority of his career, was a founding member of the REFLEX movement of 1948 and the COBRA group. As with the other COBRA members, his work spanned several discipline including poetry, painting and sculpture. Inspired by masters including Joan Miro and Paul Klee, the COBRA ethos also pivoted around an appreciation for and validation of the authenticity of artwork created by children. Corneille’s own aesthetic embodies this appreciation for the purity, exuberance and sometimes uncanny nature of art created out-with the socially imposed structures of tradition and ‘taste’.
