Biography: Safwan Dahoul is considered one of the foremost painters of the Arabic world. His works tend to be melancholic and monochromatic, and for many years he has been intrigued by the exploration of dream states, and associated yearning emotions such as solitude and longing.
Initially trained in Damascus, he gained his doctorate in Belgium from the Higher Institute of Graphic Arts, Mons. After completing his studies, he returned to Damascus to teach and work, becoming a prominent figure within the art scene. His teaching is credited with developing and mentoring a new generation of artists in the city, and across his contributions in painting and teaching, he can be seen as a crucial link between modern and contemporary Arab art.
