Biography: Eva Rothschild is a contemporary Irish artist known for her sculptural work, which employ a broad range of materials including aluminium, jesmonite, leather, fabric and Perspex.
Rothschild was born in Dublin in 1971. She studied Fine Art at the University of Ulster, Belfast from 1990-93, followed by Fine Art at Goldsmith's College, London from 1997-99.
Inspired by the Minimalist art movements of the 1960s and 70s, Rothschild uses geometric shapes and segmentation in her works to explore the relationship between materiality, Classical architecture, and spirituality. Her works inspire feelings of transformation and the fragile ability to be taken apart.
In 2014 she was elected Royal Academician and in 2019, she represented Ireland at the 58th Venice Biennale.
Rothschild works in her studio but has also had several major public and outdoor commissions. She has also had institutional solo exhibitions across the world, including at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (2018), Dublin City Gallery, the Hugh Lane (2014), Nasher Sculpture Center (2012), The Hepworth Wakefield (2011), South London Gallery (2007), and Kunsthalle Zürich (2004).
Today, Rothschild’s works are held by major collections including the MoMA, New York, the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, and the Tate Gallery, London.
